In Philippines the super Typhoon Haiyan killed over 7000 people and destroyed tens of thousands of homes in November 2013. Just 13 month after the Typhoon Hagupit hits again in the central-eastern Philippines. One of the most destroyed area is on Samar Island around the city of Dolores. More than ten thousands home have been completely washed out in the city, villages, small islands. Power, telecommunications, roads and bridge badly damaged. Remote villages and islands need food supplies and clean water.
Most of the houses destroyed were just finished to be fixed from the last Typhoon Haiyan. With a lack of materials, skills and money the villagers rebuild precarious houses again and again.
» We don’t have money to rebuild a proper house, we just move on and keep smiling because I feel lucky to be alive « says Malaya from Kabani Island who now lives in her friend’s house.
The Country has an average of 20 typhoons per year between between June and December but the storms have intensified dramatically in recent years.
